Volunteered at Mpls. Institute of Art tonight @ ArtPerchance.
Artists donate works -- people buy tickets, drop them into the buckets by pieces of their choosing, and hope to be drawn as the winner at the end of the evening. Hence the name: ArtPerchance. Very clever fundraiser w/games, a silent auction, and it was just fun/exciting/pure motivation - to be somewhat behind the scenes at such a great, great place. The Process of a Painting -- apparently my new obsession!!?!
This is a house outside of New Germany, I believe. I had to pull over becuase of the colors. Bright yellow sign - in front of white house -- with rusty trucks -- vertical/horizontal lines galore... I'm just really excited about this painting. It has every aspect I love to paint, on one chaotic canvas.***

Dodie's advice today -- "Work on the shading -- and the cow will just pop."
Also, I tried using just one tone in a painting and focusing on the lights/darks. There was definitely a freedom in not having to focus/mix/worry about color.
To follow up on the bike trip -- my sister Anna's husband, Ryan, & I biked 170+ miles earlier this week. Rode out to Watertown, SD w/my brother Aaron --- and biked 72 miles to Montevideo, 70 miles to Hutchinson, then 27 miles ending at Kt's driveway. I may just be hooked.**
