A few Logos...

This past summer I was asked to help with the Delano Community Market's logo,

as well as the image for Art Consultant Jeannie Hintz's business cards,









and my friend Jered & his new wife Holly --- their new farm's logo.

Apartment. Art. Salon.

I made some pretty great art friends during my time at the U.  To stay motivated --- to keep producing work -- and [mainly] for an absolute GREAT time ---- we take everything out of my apartment and hang a one-night art show.

Our first Art Salon was July 20th.  We had 96 people come through.
This past September - we planned one in a week -- and still have 65 people attend.  :)

NEW. YORK.

This Summer I spent a few weeks studying the art world -- w/ some of the U's greaetest -- in New York.  We stayed in Long Island City, and had studio space near Chelsea.  It was AMAZING.  Eye-opening.  & GLorious.  We exhibited our work at NYCAMS Studio.  [below is my interpretation of the Number System Base III].

Delano Community Market.

Delano is a great, great community.  The Food Council partnered with the Lion's Club -- and hosted a Art/Craft/Produce market every Saturday during the Summer months...  It was lovely.

My input was the logo design, this GINORMOUS sign, and many fashionable screen-printed Tees.  :)

50th and France Art Crawl

This past weekend was the opening of the window displays on 50th & France.  About 20 art students from the area were matched with a local business.  I was placed at Brides of France -- and Jill & their staff were great.

The displays are up until March 7th.  Lost of pegboard & pattern.   :)  Come check it out!

Art Lesson with OLIVia & EMma.

Just had an art lesson with Mary Reynold's granddaughters.  We went over the basics of drawing -- then various shades/values when painting a flower pot.

It was great.  & Look at their paintings!!  They are naturals!  :)

PATTERNS.

My Horoscope for the day:

You are usually comforted by patterns, and you easily sync your personal rhythms to the routines of life. However, today you will benefit from a pattern interruption.

Deems fitting -- since today I am working on the four Christmas commissions I have to have done this week.***

But here are some of my newest paintings ---  the 'patterns' I am straying from.... temporarily.  :)

Hopkins Center for the Arts presents ---- 

Twin Cities Undergraduate Showcase. 

I will be representing the U of MN.  :)

Nine local schools are participating in the show: 
College of Visual Arts, 
Augsburg College, 
Minneapolis College of Art and Design, 
College of St. Catherine, 
Concordia University, 
Macalester College, 
University of Minnesota, 
Minneapolis Community Technical College 
& Art Institutes International, Minnesota. 


 Each school was asked to choose four undergraduate works in any media to feature in the exhibition and will provide a statement about their art program and the works selected.  “One of the purposes of the exhibition is to showcase the arts programs in the Twin Cities,” stated Fawzia Khan, Visual Arts Committee Chair at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. “This is a chance to articulate what is unique and commendable about each program.”


Opening reception: Thursday, November 3 from 6-8 pm. Free-of-charge to the public.  Guests will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists."

U of MN -- BFA Show Opening Tonight.********

Hey all.  If you happen to be near the U of MN from 5-7pm tonight -- stop on in.  My classmates and I put together a show -- Death Before Small Talk, an ongoing discussion.  We are continually adding pieces / swapping artwork / moving stuff throughout the duration of the show.  Its kinda fun & makes for a pretty unique feel.

It's funny how you almost forget how beautiful home is -- until you go away for awhile.  :)

Here's the almost-complete, new roof on my studio.

 Finally, I had my last official meeting for my CMAB Art Grant.  Doug Standke, the Program Director, came out to meet with Dodie & me at my studio.  Just recapping the last year with these dedicated, art-minded people --- I realized just how amazing this experience has been.  THanks DODIE!!  & Doug!  It will forever mark the start of something really great in my life.***

Back from TANZANIA -- Off to GERMANY.******

After a month in Africa -- helping in gardens, at an orphanage, peeling potatoes in the kitchen, admiring homemade fabrics/baskets, & just traveling the beautiful country of Tanzania --- I am now ready for part II of my summer.

I leave tomorrow for Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany. I will be interning at a German Kunstverein, member-owned Art Gallery that will host an oil painter this summer. I am so excited I can hardly handle myself -- for the people, food, language, hiking trails... & the ARTWORK.

I leave for Africa on Saturday.......

.......and cannot begin to tell you how excited I am.  For the people - the animals - fabrics - food - pace - exploration - customs - & (of course) the ART.   I will be traveling w/my cousin Cara.  We fly out to DC for a night, then to Addis Ababa (capital of Ethiopia) and on to Zanzibar (island off coast of Tanzania).  We then ferry across to Dar es Salaam (capital of Tanzania), and bus (many hours) to Njombe, where we will stay.  And help at an orphanage, in the fields, and w/preparation of food.

I found an R. Mullin quote -- while dreaming: "The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa - for he has so much to look forward to."   :) :) :) Cheers.
